A Benign Lump or the End of Life As You Know It?

It’s the end of a holiday on a beach at dawn. I should be enjoying the moment, my nine-month-old daughter’s delight in wind and waves, sandpipers and shells, but my mind is elsewhere. Will this be the last morning like this one? Will I be there for her first day of school? Her wedding? The day she gives birth to her own child?
